No more checks - 50% deposit
Here is the thing about the NO MORE CHECKS policy!
Twice this week I had problem with checks from customers, the first one was a small check we deposited about a week earlier into our account. The check bounced and I had to contact the customer, he apologized and deposited direct. This was very inconvenient for him and also for me ! A waste of time for him to deposit direct and for me to actually bring the check to bank in first place, find a parking spot, wait in line, fill out a form and then pick up the check again a week later ! Who is going to reimburse me for the time and money spend in this matter ?
The second one was much bigger, again, I had to drive to the bank, wait in line over an hour at the HSBC branch in Escazu just for the teller to tell me that the clients account is “ inactive”.
Knowing my customer, this was hard to believe ! I called him right away but nobody picked up the phone until the next morning. He told me everything is fine with the account and he wrote seven more checks this week and there was no problem.
I went back to the bank in the afternoon, drive there through traffic, but this time I went right away to customer service to make sure the check is good. Customer service confirmed the check and I had to wait in line again over one hour just for the teller to tell me that he cannot cash the check since he cannot confirm with the account holder. The bank manager and I tried to call the account holder for another hour without any success until the manager signed the check in the back just because she knew me for over thirteen years !
I spend about eight hours in banks and traffic last week alone for two checks, I don’t have the time to do this, I have better things to do !

Another thing we had a couple of weeks back with a client in the Nicoya area, we drove there for almost five hours, installed the system in an very inconvenient location in the hot midday sun, finished late since he told us the mounting post would be installed the day before but he didn’t do it. The owner’s tech in charge for the construction and installation in the building was nowhere to be found to approve of our work in the late afternoon, this forced us to stay overnight in some flee plagued cabins in the village. Not prepared for this we managed anyway just to find out the next morning after the “official” approval from the “tech”, the owner tells me that he spend all his money on the workers the day before. Pleased with the work he offered to deposit in our account the next day, the next day came and went, so did thirteen more until we finally got the money ! What do you think is going to happen there when something goes wrong with his beautiful new satellite system ?
We do honest work, quick, reliable, great products, we answer the phones, assist after purchase and so on, we really try to keep our customers happy and get recommended to others, but we will NOT get screwed over anymore !
50% of any installation is due BEFORE we even get into the car for an install from now on !
We take Dollars, Euros and Colones, we accept direct or electronic deposits in one of our accounts in Banco Nacional, Banco de Costa Rica or HSBC. Smaller purchases like parts or services can be paid through PayPal as well, however, in case of Paypal, we charge an additional 5% to cover their fees.
